What contributes to the appearance of size in a round brilliant diamond (besides the actual carat weight)?
Nothing about the diamond itself.
The setting can have an effect though. One style in white gold places large prongs which come to a flat about 1mm across roughly flush with the diamond’s face. A .5 carat stone looks nearly twice it’s size at first glance, but it’s not going to fool her.
Her hand is the other consideration. Slender fingers make the whole ring, especially the diamond look larger.
