Best way to clean tarnished antique jewelry?
I have a 25+ year old Rosary that’s terribly tarnished. I’ve tried cleaning it with a polishing cloth, but it’s so tarnished, and there’s so much detail, I can’t get it as clean as I want. What is the best way to clean it, without damaging the beads which are, I believe, Aurora Borealis Swavski Crystals, or something similar.
Thanks!
One way to clean sterling silver is to use plain white toothpaste and an old toothbrush.
Another suggestion is from http://eartheasy.com/live_nontoxic_solutions.htm which says to “line a pan with aluminum foil and fill with water; add a teaspoon each of baking soda and salt. Bring to a boil and immerse silver. Polish with soft cloth.”
Good luck and enjoy your crystals.
