How do I find the best quality and cut diamond for an engagement ring?
Favorite shape diamonds: pear and marquis. I like platinum and white gold.
Get a GIA certified diamond and make it a very good cut (normally I’d say excellent, but GIA doesn’t recognize an excellent cut in fancy shape diamonds). You can save a ton by getting an SI1 or SI2 clarity diamond that is eye clean (meaning that you can’t see any inclusions with the naked eye) compared to higher clarity diamonds. Also, stick to a D, E, or F colored diamond (colorless). If you do this, you’ll save a ton AND come out with a much nicer diamond.
I do free diamond searches at http://diamonds.beforeproposing.com and I constantly see people trying to buy crappy diamonds for double of what they should pay. Feel free to give my site a look and e-mail me if you’re interested!
Take care,
Brian
