What is the best glue use to bind studs and rhinestones to clothing?
It is a new trend in clothing. Clothing manufacturers use glue to bind rhinestones and studs to their product to make it more appealing. Does anyone know which the best fabric glue for that job is? For example we can find rhinestones and studs on Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier clothing line. Thanks.
Many lines such as Ed Hardy use embellishments with heat set adhesives. Many crystals, stones and nailheads are manufactured with a hot-fix adhesive on the back. A special tool that looks similar to a soldering iron is used to quickly melt the glue and attach the stone to the item. These hot-fix embellishments are far more durable and less likely to fall off due to careless consumer laundering and cleaning methods. I’ve found dry cleaning is murder on glue set embellishments, while hot fix embellishments are more resistant to damage from dry cleaning. I’ve switched to exclusively heat set or old fashioned metal prong set; I simply have too many issues with cold glue sets. In my business the final nail in the coffin for glue sets was the time factor, it takes less time to use hot fix embellishments than to glue and place and wait for the piece to dry. Rhinestone guy has tools, rhinestones, information, and tips on high end embellishments. Creative Crystal sells a hot fix tool and crystals suitable for a hobbyist who wants to add sparkle to anything.
