How do you clean rhinestone jewelry?

This is what my Mom used for over 50 years and it’s what I use … Get a container with a lid that fits tight (either glass or plastic ) Use 1 part amonia (any kind) 1 part warm water and a drop of grease cutting dish soap. DO NOT USE ON PEARLS or OPALS. Soak rhinestone jewelry in it for a few minutes. Swish solution around (to start loosening dirt) Let jewelry soak 1/2 hour more. Take out and rinse in cold water. If jewelry isn’t clean enough, use a cheap soft bristle tooth brush. This works fabulous. Caution: do not soak good (real gold or silver) jewelry with cheap jewelry as it may discolor the cheaper metal. I have been using this method for over 30 years myself and have found some real treasures under decades of grime. With this solution you can soak your diamonds, gold and silver jewelry overnight and it comes out beautiful. Just as good as if you had had it steam cleaned at a jewelry store. The reason you cannot soak cheap jewelry as long is the backing in the rhinestones or the plating on the cheap metal may come off.
