Enhanced Diamond Engagement
Question about my engagement ring? What would you do…?

Ok, I first had a solitaire ring that I got from my fiance when he proposed. Well recently he bought me an enhancer to add more diamonds to it. I’ve been wearing this for a few days. Well, I’ve been reading that the enhancer should be used as the wedding band. I just thought the enhancer was to enhance the engagement ring. So, if I buy a separate wedding band, I want it to be just a plain thin simple one because I don’t want that much bling, but I don’t know.

So I guess my question is.. would you just use the enhancer as the wedding band when getting when getting married? (considering I’ve already been wearing the enhancer) OR get a seperate plain wedding band?

Two options.

1) I think you posted some pictures when you asked this the other day and they were really hard to see. It would help if we could see pics.

With my ring:

I’m getting one of these:

http://www.helzberg.com/product/engagement+%26+wedding/diamond+wedding+bands/1-2ct+tw+round+diamond+ring+1674478.do?sortby=priceAscend

And I’ll use one of them as my engagement ring and then I will probably ask for a second one for our one year anniversary.

That’s why I ask for a picture. Is the enhancer something that you could add a second one? So it would be enhancer – engagement ring – enhancer.

Then, you could wear the one you have now and have a second one as your wedding band.

2) You could just take off the enhancer for now and use it as your wedding band. Then you don’t have to spend any more money!

Good luck!

Did we get my engagement ring for a good price?

I’d like to know from people who have either bought or investigated engagement rings and prices, if you think we got a good price for mine. My ring is a princess cut, on a white gold cathedral setting, with pave diamonds on all 4 sides. The center stone is .73 ct. I color, I1, (it’s a fairly good I1) and the diamonds on the ring are .5 ct. The diamond is about $2000, and the ring about $1500. The total price is around $3500.
Thank you so much for your input. It’s bad to second-guess, so I really appreciate you guys humoring me. The fact is, I’m in love with my ring almost as much as I love my man. And what’s special about it is that we picked it out together.

Plus he wants to upgrade my diamond every few years, and the place we got it from offers 100% trade in value, in addition to life-time warranty for the ring.

Thanks again.

The only way to know is to take it to another jeweler and get a rough estimate of the price. Don’t give him any information. Or, get an appraisal by the company that sold you the diamond or someone independent. That will cost some money.

The ring sounds beautiful. It’s value is in how much you love it and the love between you and your fiance’.

What is the best way to go about buying a loose diamond for an engagement ring you already own?

My boyfriend was given a ring that belonged to his stepfather’s late wife. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but the stone was removed. We are working together to become engaged, and we want to find a diamond together. Where do we start with all the appraisals, rock shopping, resizing, etc?

When buying a loose diamond only buy certified diamonds. GIA, ASG, DCLA are good labs, EGL and a few others are a bit dodgy (not as accurate/specific)…
First thing for you to do is get some education on diamonds and what all the acronims mean and what is decent quality for which cut.
Long story short I suggest you go for:
Colour: D – G anything after that is faint yellow and will not hold its value as well.
Clarity: Flawless – Slightly Included 1 for most cuts (round brilliant, princess, cushion) Or flawless to Very Slightly included 2 for more open fancy cuts such as the emerald or baguette
Cut: Find out what the dimention angles and percentages for the specific cut shape you are going for and compare them to the Certification dimentions. This links tells you what they are for which cuts. Depth and table are the most important
Round http://diamonds.pricescope.com/round.asp
Princess http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc1.asp
Emerald http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc2.asp
Heart, pear etc http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc3.asp
Dark bands or triangles show areas where light is leaking from the diamond.
When choosing the cut always go for the one you like to look at, thats the most important part after all.

I then suggest you go to a reputable private jeweller and ask if they sell loose stones (most do). You tell them what you want and they do the leg work. They will order the stones in for you to see, you should not pay any money at all to the jewellers just to see the stones (some try to scam you like that, it doesn’t cost them more than a few $ to get them in). Always look at 2 or 3 stones next to each other so you can compare.
Get the details and compare the prices online (which are retail prices despite them saying things like “wholesale direct to public”), remember that shops do have overheads though and they will be slightly more expensive, but 200% additional or more is ridiculous (I have seen heaps of jewellers do this). Do your research and go with your gut on whether it seems to much for the size and quality.

You will also have to take the setting in with you as they really can’t be altered all that much, you will have to go with a stone close to the size it was already set with, with a little leeway bigger or smaller.

It is also a good idea to go to many different jewellers for differernt quotes, you will see the huge price range you get for the same thing.
Also try private/independant jewellery artisans as they are sometimes the most competitive.

How much would a half-carat diamond ring be worth?

I have a half-carat diamond ring that I want to sell. About how much might I be able to get for it?

The value of a diamond is based on the 4 c’s – color, clarity, cut, and carat. The only way to tell the value of your diamond is to have it appraised.

One thing for sure is that you will not get as much for it as you (or someone) paid for it.

Trying to get a Diamond engagement ring!?

I have come accross the following website
www.londonantwerpdiamonds.com – who are diamond brokers in Canary wharf and office in Antwerp. They say the prices are the same to buy a diamond in Canary wharf as to go to antwerp to buy the diamond.
Can anyone advise?
Also is hatton garden the best place to get diamond engagement rings?
And has anyone any experience with Diamond workshop in Hatton Garden.
Any diamond I get I will be getting a certificate.

There are lovely rings here -

What would a 14kt chips anniversary ring with 10 round diamond chips and 12 bagget diamond chips be worth?

went to a pawn shop n they offered me 30$ for it im just curious what its actually worth the diamonds are real n i have the pawn shop description it says Womans 14 kt chips 4.2g/yg Anniversary Band (10 Roun Chips) (12 Bagg Chips)

The ring weighs 4.2 grams of 14kt gold, so that alone would be worth more than what they offered. Even if the diamonds are chips, if the whole ring looks nice, I would try and sell it maybe on ebay or so. Pawn shops don’t pay well.
Cheers

What are the benefits of a mine cut diamond?

if all other factors ( the 4 c’s ) are the same, which is better- mine cut, european cut or round brilliant?

what are the benefits of these cuts?

The old mine cut is generally not used these days. The round brilliant is the best cut for a diamond, because it gives the most light return. No other cut sparkles like the round brilliant. If the other 3 C’s are comparable, the round cut diamond (assuming it’s cut to the proper proportions) is going to be by far the prettiest stone.

How popular is it to have a cubic zirconia engagement ring instead of a real diamond? (if at all…)?

cubic zirconia vs. diamond engagement/wedding rings

It’s probably really unpopular. My first engagment ring was a cz because he/we couldn’t afford a real one at the time. About a year after we were married, be bought me a real one (although I didn’t care, I don’t wear it anyway). The ring is not important. Your marriage and faithfulness is what’s important.

engagement ring disaster!!!?

does anyone have any horror stories about their engagement ring?? I need to know there’s others out there right now… my bf proposed to me on monday and got the exact ring I wanted from this store that was going out of business… its gorgeous and i needed it sized and 2 jewelers wouldnt touch it because it has pave diamonds along each side and said they would fall out.. i got a guy to do it but he said they kept falling out and that I would have trouble all down the road with it so my best deal is to get my diamond made into another ring.. which i dont have the money for… the pave diamond rings are soo gorgeous and thats what i like! is there any style of ring out there that has then and they dont fall out??? Im soooo sad about this… this should be a happy occasion.. the place he got it from wont take it back either since they are going out of business…

Ohhh girl! I’m going through something very similar right now. 2 months ago I picked out 3 different rings I really liked. I went to a designer and came up with a design to incorporate all 3 designs into my perfect ring. Last week the ring finally arrives. I’m being nice when I say it looked like s**t. The channel stones are crooked, the gold is all uneven, the prongs are all wrong. We told them we are not happy with the ring and they said they would make us a new one. I am getting married in 2 WEEKS! They said they would “try” and have my ring back in time. I am FLIPPING out right now so I totally feel your pain. I’m so worried it will be re-done and still look like crap. I don’t want to get married with a piece of crap, half-a$$ed ring. Good luck!
