engagement ring disaster!!!?

does anyone have any horror stories about their engagement ring?? I need to know there’s others out there right now… my bf proposed to me on monday and got the exact ring I wanted from this store that was going out of business… its gorgeous and i needed it sized and 2 jewelers wouldnt touch it because it has pave diamonds along each side and said they would fall out.. i got a guy to do it but he said they kept falling out and that I would have trouble all down the road with it so my best deal is to get my diamond made into another ring.. which i dont have the money for… the pave diamond rings are soo gorgeous and thats what i like! is there any style of ring out there that has then and they dont fall out??? Im soooo sad about this… this should be a happy occasion.. the place he got it from wont take it back either since they are going out of business…

Ohhh girl! I’m going through something very similar right now. 2 months ago I picked out 3 different rings I really liked. I went to a designer and came up with a design to incorporate all 3 designs into my perfect ring. Last week the ring finally arrives. I’m being nice when I say it looked like s**t. The channel stones are crooked, the gold is all uneven, the prongs are all wrong. We told them we are not happy with the ring and they said they would make us a new one. I am getting married in 2 WEEKS! They said they would “try” and have my ring back in time. I am FLIPPING out right now so I totally feel your pain. I’m so worried it will be re-done and still look like crap. I don’t want to get married with a piece of crap, half-a$$ed ring. Good luck!

When it comes to symbolism, there is nothing like pave diamond engagement rings to symbolizing the invisible bond between two souls. Being held on with tiny beads or prongs, the pave diamonds appear to be just floating in a ring formation around her finger. This represents the symbolism of your life with her as forever strong.

When deciding on having pave diamonds in the band of the engagement ring, a traditional setting has already been avoided. Most traditional solitaire rings are of yellow gold with one large stone. To give the illusion of diamonds dancing on the finger, white gold or platinum must be used with the pave diamonds. This way the mounts, even though able to be seen, will not be standing out like a sore thumb.

For those that have decided on using a wide band for the engagement ring, but still want it to look spectacular and delicate, several rows of pave diamonds can be incorporated into the band. By having the outer rows of diamonds angling in, the sparkle will be magnified when the light hits the stones and give a fire effect like no other.

Of course there is the opposite that can be done. With a tiny band, very small stones can be placed on it. This small little sparkle around her delicate little finger will be spectacular in the sunlight. Some try too hard and get an overpowering effect. This minimalistic approach will be simple, elegant and a delicate touch to your sentiment for her. It will show how delicately you will hold her heart as the years pass by in your life together.

Pave diamond engagement rings are just another way you can show her how much you love and care for her.

Let’s face facts — buying a diamond engagement ring is one of the most important purchases that you will ever make. It will set the tone for your marriage, and may be more meaningful to you than the purchase of your first home. Not only that, but buying an engagement ring is a big investment. Simply put, you want the best value for your money and you need to deal with someone that you can trust.

What are some good brands/designers of engagement rings that are not overly priced?

I am looking for a micro pave band or thin channel set band with nice detail or perhaps diamonds in the prong/setting that holds the main diamond. Nothing to ornate or over the top… any suggestions?

If you’re looking for a designer style without the extravagant price, I would suggest Tacori. Although they are still expensive, they still cost less than Harry Winston or Tiffany’s!

There are many unique settings that can be used for an engagement ring. The pave engagement settings derive its name from a paved path. The ring itself is paved or has small diamonds all around the ring. With small diamonds in the surface of the ring, there is the illusion that this is the band instead of a metal band.

The diamonds of this ring are attached by small beads or very small prongs. This helps with the illusion that the small diamonds are free standing and just flow around the band. For this reason most of the paved bands use white gold or platinum as the base metal. This will minimize their appearance unlike yellow gold that is in contrast and will show up clearly.

With pave engagement settings, there can be a center stone placed on top. This stone can be a diamond but not always. Other types of stones that can be used are Emeralds and Rubies. The sparkle from the paved diamonds adds to the appearance of the center stone which is usually set with prongs but some incorporate a bezel setting.

There are several different types of pave setting engagement rings. There is one where the width of the ring is encrusted with diamonds. There should be no evidence from the surface that there is a metal band underneath. There are also pave bands that have multiple rows of diamonds. The outer rows are usually angled towards the center row that gives a spectacular effect when gazed upon. If this is done correctly, a 3-d effect will be seen. These two types have a center stone placed among the pave. The last does not. While this type is usually an anniversary ring some are making it an engagement ring to change tradition and to save money.

The quality of the stones that are used will determine the price of this ring. One nice thing is that most of the flaws from the stones of lesser quality are covered up because of the recess setting. In addition the pave engagement settings are a great choice for those on a tight budget.

Can someone send me a photo or website with a diamond ring with pavé emeralds?

I have this ring in mind (white gold, diamond ring with pavé emeralds) – but have not actually seen it. I just wanted to know if this exists. Thanks!
…specifically, a large engagement diamond ring in the center, then small pave emeralds on the side (or vice versa if that’s more common).
thanks!

Engagement rings with pave diamonds are named for pavement- as in, pave diamonds are clustered so closely together they appear akin to glittery-shimmering cobblestone pavement. So you don’t look like a fool when you go to buy one of these bad boys, pave is pronounced … pah-vay. Pave diamond bands look expensive because all you see are rows of diamonds, but surprisingly, they don’t have to be. Pave diamonds are just small diamond chips and thus they typically maximize a ring’s beauty, but not the cost. An even cheaper alternative is to use a non-diamond gemstone.

Pave settings are constructed by drilling small holes into the ring shank, which the stones are inserted into. The diamond chips used are all approximately the same size and luster. After the stones are placed into the band, minute amounts of metal are molded over the edge of each diamond chip, holding them in place. Pave bands typically use tiny prongs to hold diamond chips in place. This helps to make the row of diamonds stand out while minimizing the appearance of the metal. The most popular metals for pave bands are platinum and white gold, as the pave setting in general, has a very contemporary look.

There are two different kinds of pave settings. The first type is a single band with a row of diamonds. The band can be thin or wide. The thin band accomodates small chips while the wide band is suited for larger diamond chips, and will cost more. The other pave design has a wide band with several clustered rows of diamonds set at slightly different angles to each other. Pave diamond bands without a center stone are referred to as eternity rings or anniversary bands.

Old miner cut diamond engagement rings preceded the invention of the light bulb. Hence, the diamonds were designed to be seen under candlelight rather than electric light. These stones would sparkle even in a dim candlelit atmosphere. Many find the soft glow of antique diamonds to be quite appealing.

Miner cut diamond engagement rings, as with other early gemstones in the 18th and 19th century, were cut and polished by hand. As a result, no two diamonds were alike, each having variations in shape and facet size. Today, thanks to technological advances, machines do all the work, sacrificing the character derived from old methods of cutting for perfection. However, antique diamonds often possess incomparable life and uniqueness. This has resulted in the price of old cut diamonds skyrocketing in recent years.

Old mine cut diamonds are often seen in Georgian and Victorian jewelry. Miner cut diamonds date back to the 1830′s and maintained their popularity till the end of the century. The cut has a round shape, high crown, and faceted culet. Often the facets come together at the bottom of the diamond and leave a small flat surface.

When evaluating antique diamonds such as the miner cut, they cannot be judged by modern standards. Antique diamonds were cut to maximize carat weight, not brilliance. Often times the proportions of antique diamonds vary dramatically from modern diamonds.

The old mine cut diamond is the earliest form of the modern brilliant cut. The modern cushion cut diamond resembles the old mine cut, but the cushion cut gemstone is more rectanglur shaped.

Do I have to have a wedding band?

My engagement ring is very unique. It has a split band that is covered with pave diamonds. It’s gorgeous and kind of thick on my finger. Do I have to have a wedding band or would it be okay to just use my engagement ring as both my wedding band and engagement ring? My ring is so unique that I don’t think I could find anything that would compliment it and I really don’t want to get something that would take away from it’s beauty.

No. It is more than appropriate to just have an engagement ring serve as both the engagement ring and the wedding band. I have such a beautiful engagement ring that I do not need a wedding band either. It is just a tradition to have a wedding band but more and more brides are opting to just have an engagement ring alone. So, go ahead and be as unique as your engagement ring and choose to forgo having a wedding band. Whether you have one ring on or two does not matter. What matters is your love and relationship with your groom. (But a nice engagement ring doesn’t hurt! :-))
