What should I be careful of when resizing wedding rings?

I have two rings I plan on resizing. A diamond channel wedding band and a solitare diamond engagement ring. The rings would go up 1.5 sizes. Both are platinum. What kind of things should I talk with the jewler about or be weary of after resizing them?
Well, I handed my ring over to the jewelers and now I have to wait, which is killing me. It should be done by Thursday. I just pray that it comes out just like how it was before but a few sizes up.

Ask if they plan on cutting/adding or stretching. To go up 1.5 sizes, stretching would more than likely weaken the bands and would FOR SURE loosen the stones in the channel set.

For the the solitare, you’ve really nothing to worry about as far as durability even if they cut/add to the band.
With channel sets, just discuss the possibilities/probabilities of how the resizing could effect the channel sets and whether or not it could result in looser settings.
For most well equipped jewelers, they will be very cautious when sizing a channel set band…but it pays to make your jeweler aware that YOU are aware this is possible if not done properly.

Some things are a perfect pairing – peaches and cream, wine and cheese, and … platinum and diamonds. This perfect pairing combines to create the ultimate in wedding rings.

A platinum and diamond wedding band is a symbol of everlasting and eternal love and commitment. That is very fitting, as diamonds and platinum are two of the worlds most precious and hardest natural substances. They each have a superb hardness, brilliant sheen and white color making them natural partners.

The higher cost of diamond and platinum engagement rings or wedding bands is well justified because, not only will they last forever but they signify that the wearer has reached the top, giving him or her the reward of perfection.

There are an extensive number of possible platinum and diamond ring variations in both engagement rings and wedding bands with each one as spectacular and beautiful as the next. Here are a few of the many beautiful styles available on the market today:

  • A traditional or conventional design may be an elegant yet simple platinum wedding band with a milgrain scroll along the edges and a centered, half-carat diamond in the middle. Short rows of smaller diamonds are on either side of the centered larger diamond. This platinum and diamond wedding band is timeless and will always have great beauty.
  • A platinum and diamond engagement ring that is sure to be a perfect choice is an elegant but simple platinum, channel set engagement ring with a gorgeous prong set solitaire diamond.
  • An exquisite diamond engagement ring in platinum, set with a half carat or carat, round, brilliant-cut diamond centered and flanked by four tapered baguettes is the perfect way to ask for your sweethearts hand in marriage. The platinum wedding band has four straight baguettes.
  • A Princess-cut full carat diamond surrounded by six smaller diamonds, set in a platinum wedding band is spectacular, making the woman wearing it feel like a queen.
  • A very modern, sleek design for a wedding band that is spectacular is a narrow band of 950Pt platinum. Set in the middle around the entire platinum band is a centered row of round diamonds or baguettes. This ring will sparkle every time you move your finger, making it a spectacular, ingenious platinum and diamond wedding band.
  • A wonderful wedding band made of a diamond and platinum that would please any man is a comfort fit platinum wedding band with a quarter carat square diamond set it the middle surrounded by engraving.

Platinum and diamond wedding bands and engagement rings are spectacular to look at and functional. Platinum is a very hard metal that does not scratch, nick or bend out of shape and diamonds are the hardest material known to man, so they make a great combination. Wedding bands made of platinum and diamonds symbolize long lasting devotion, love and commitment to each other forever.

Are you getting a plain wedding band, diamond one or enhancer?

My engagement ring is yellow gold with brilliant cut solitaire.

I’m getting a plain yellow gold wedding band to go with it.

What about you?

I’ve heard that “enhancers” are really popular instead of wedding bands. They go above and below the engagement ring.

Interesting!

If you have enhancers – is this instead of a wedding band?

But if you already have enhancers, then you can’t get an eternity ring?

Confusing!

Enhancers are popular but I don’t like them… they take up so much space on your finger, especially if you have small fingers. They seem too catchy and flashy and tacky (at least the ones I’ve seen). I want to get a band with channel set diamonds but not eternity (all the way around). I only want it about halfway around because no one will ever be looking the back of the ring, including me.

Getting your wedding band and engagement ring banded together?

I’ve been having the most difficult time with my rings sliding around my finger. My wedding band is a 1/2 eternity band (diamonds only on the front, metal around the back) and when it slides, it doesn’t look nice because the metal band is scratched and dull (lots of wear and tear!). My engagement ring has three diamonds on either side of the main diamond in the middle…so when they are both aligned, it looks nice. Problem is, they hardly ever stay aligned to look that nice!! :)

So, has anyone gotten their rings banded (soldered?) together? Yay or nay??

Your ring sounds identical to mine…LOL! I have wondered about getting mine soldered as well. The jeweler where my hubby got my rings told me that it will not stop the sliding around. I didn’t understand so he just put a little metal band on them to strap them together temporarily so I could see what he was talking about. Now instead of just my band sliding they both slid to the side and I was finding myself still adjusting them. He said this was because they are top heavy and that it may help if I get them soldered and sized a little smaller so they fit very snugly. I can’t stand my rings to fit snugly so I haven’t gotten mine soldered yet. If you want to know what it is like wrap a small wire or yarn around them to see if it makes it better for you if they are soldered. Also if you have a warranty on your rings you may be able to get the metal refinished. My hubby purchased mine with a lifetime guarantee/warranty on the diamonds and the metal so I have get mine refinished every 2 years and they look brand new again. Something to check into. Hope this helps some. Best wishes!

Getting a channel set diamond ring sized?

My husband finally got me my ideal ‘set’ today (He’s in the Navy, we did a quick wedding on a weekend last month and now he’s home on leave).

Anyways, so I always have liked very simple jewelry. I told him nothing ‘blingy’. My engagement ring is a .75c diamond solitaire. I’d of been happy with a regular band, but he picked out a .25c channel set diamond ring. But he got a size 7, as it was the only one they had and it was a good price. But I wear a size 11 ring. Now the channel set part is only the top 1/3rd, the diamonds do not go all the way around.. Will this be a problem? Can a jeweler do this without screwing it up?

I’m worried because it can’t be returned and I’ve really fallen in love with it. I just want to wear it.

Yes, take it to a jeweler who should be able to size it for you. Actually, you’d have a bigger problem if it were an eternity style ring, where the diamonds are set all the way around the ring…those can’t be sized at all.

Actually, you should check with the store/jeweler where he got it. The jeweler I do business with will initially size a ring free of charge.

Has anyone ever sold a diamond solitaire ring to a jeweler?

I want to sell my platinum 1 carat diamond solitaire back to a jeweler… does anyone have any idea how much $ I can expect to get back?

I did that after my divorce..with my rings…and not very productive, and i had the papers for the diamonds. The best advice I got was to sell the diamonds loose.. or place an ad and sell them yourself. I ended up placing an ad and selling them myself.

Hope that helps. : )

Is it common for diamonds to fall off eternity bands?

YES! I have worked in the jewelry industry for quite some time and that is the number 1 reason I wouldn’t sell eternity bands. The bottom of the ring takes so much abuse that you will be constantly replacing stones that have fallen out. I suggest a ring that has stones 3/4 of the way around so it appears to be an eternity band and can be sized but has no stones on the bottom.

The 2nd reason I didn’t sell them was “how do you size the ring” it really can’t be sized and your finger will most likely change sizes at least 2 times in your life.

If I asked you to buy me a $10000.00 platinum solitaire full carot diamond cluster ring would you say I was?

off my rocker? :P
Absolutely right, that would be a crazy thing to ask anyone :)
This question is joke in case people didn’t know. As you know a gold digger gets rich the easy way is even more dirtier than the gold digger that earns his living by doing his job right.

Nope… I’d say you were barking mad up the wrong tree…
